The Board of Control for Cricket in India to Appoint Mithun Manhas as President

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up to fill the vacant position of president after Roger Binny stepped down due to the age limit rule. Since Binny’s resignation, vice-captain Rajeev Shukla has been acting as the interim president. However, ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, Shukla has announced that former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas will take over as the new head of the world’s richest cricket board.

Mithun Manhas Confirmed as BCCI President

During the nomination process for key positions at the BCCI, multiple candidates vied for roles such as the president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, and IPL governing council chairman. Rajeev Shukla himself submitted his nomination for the vice-president position and later revealed that Mithun Manhas has been selected as the new BCCI president. Additionally, Arun Dhumal will continue in his role as the chairman of the IPL governing council.

Rajeev Shukla explained, “A new body is being formed for the next term. Mithun Manhas, a former player, has been chosen as the president. Arun Dhumal will continue as the chairman of the IPL governing council.”

Rajeev Shukla to Retain Vice-President Role

It is anticipated that the current BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, will remain in his position while Shukla will continue as the vice-president. Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia is likely to transition to the joint-secretary role. Furthermore, Jaydev Shah is expected to join the BCCI Apex Council, replacing Khairul Jamal Majumdar, who is set to move to the IPL Governing Council.

Who is Mithun Manhas?

Mithun Manhas is a former Delhi cricketer who captained the team during his extensive domestic career from 1997-98 to 2016-17. With 157 first-class matches, 130 List A games, and 91 T20s under his belt, Manhas scored 9,714 runs, 4,126 runs, and 1,170 runs, respectively, in the different formats. He also had a successful IPL career, playing for Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings.

Currently, Manhas is part of a BCCI-appointed sub-committee overseeing the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. He has also served as a coach for various teams, including the Bangladesh U19 men’s team, Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Titans.

BCCI to Announce Test Squad for West Indies Series

On a different note, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia disclosed that the Indian squad for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies will be unveiled in the next few days. The first Test is scheduled to begin on October 2 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, followed by the second Test on October 10 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Saikia stated, “The selection for the Indian Test team for the upcoming series against the West Indies will take place on September 23 or 24. The selection meeting will be conducted online.”
