Competition and the Prediction of a Future in Indian Test Cricket

The Indian cricket team management has been actively scouting for reliable seamers to bolster the fast-bowling unit in Test matches. Over the past few years, several bowlers like Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Anshul Kamboj, and Auqib Nabi have been given opportunities, but the competition is fierce. Deshpande’s pace, which surpasses many of his contemporaries, positions him as a promising candidate for selection in the near future.

Learning from the Legends: Deshpande’s Inspiration and Technique

One of Deshpande’s key sources of inspiration is the legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. The young pacer spends considerable time studying videos of Steyn’s bowling, particularly his ability to swing the ball at high speeds. Deshpande aims to emulate this skill, believing that adding swing and variation will elevate his performance and make him a more unpredictable threat to batsmen.

“Watching Dale Steyn’s videos has helped me understand how to swing the ball at pace. If I can incorporate that into my game, I believe I will be a different kind of bowler,” Deshpande shared. His focus is not merely on raw pace but on skillful execution—predicting that the right combination of speed and swing will be key to his prediction of success at the highest level.

Confidence and Consistency: The Keys to Breaking Into the Indian Test Squad
