This prediction comes amidst growing retirement rumors surrounding both players since India’s victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Age Should Not Determine Selection

In a recent interview on a Pakistani television channel, Zaheer Abbas emphasized that age should not be a deciding factor in selecting players for the World Cup. He expressed his confidence in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s skills and experience, stating that as long as they remain fit and continue to perform well, they should be included in the squad for the 2027 tournament.

“Both are very, very good in terms of skill and, given their experience, I don’t see any reason why they should not play the World Cup. Age should not be a factor as long as they are fit and continue scoring runs,” Zaheer remarked.

Zaheer Abbas also commended Rohit Sharma for his exceptional century against England. Rohit’s impressive performance in the final match of the series, where he scored 138 runs, left a lasting impression on Abbas. Additionally, he mentioned Virat Kohli’s recovery from a slow start in the series, showcasing his class with back-to-back half-centuries.

“I watched Rohit score a hundred against England, and it is still a pleasure to watch him bat. He plays so effortlessly and with such sweet timing,” Zaheer explained.

Hope for Pakistan Cricket

Shifting focus to Pakistan cricket, Zaheer Abbas urged fans to remain patient during the team’s rebuilding phase. He expressed optimism about Babar Azam’s return as Test captain, believing that his leadership and consistent performance with the bat could elevate the team’s fortunes.

“Hopefully, the return of Babar Azam as Test captain will turn things around. He is a world-class player and, once he starts scoring runs consistently again, it will have a positive impact on the rest of the team as well. Good times will return for Pakistan cricket,” Zaheer stated.

Pakistan is currently facing challenges in Test cricket, as evidenced by their recent defeat in the series against the West Indies. However, with Zaheer Abbas’ support and confidence in Babar Azam’s leadership, the team aims to bounce back and improve their standings in the ICC World Test Championship.
