Putting an end to the speculations surrounding his possible return to the field, former England National Cricket Team captain Ben Stokes has made it clear that he is determined to stay retired. However, the pace-bowling all-rounder is now reportedly considering joining Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers. Additionally, there are rumors that Stokes is exploring the possibility of playing in the United States’ franchise league, Major League Cricket (MLC).

Ben Stokes to Join Sydney Sixers and MLC?

Recent reports from Australian media outlets indicated that Ben Stokes is on the verge of signing a lucrative deal with Sydney Sixers in the BBL. While this news has been making the rounds, The Telegraph has suggested that Stokes could also be eyeing a move to Major League Cricket in the future.

The Telegraph’s report, published on August 5, 2026, hinted at Stokes’ interest in exploring opportunities in the MLC. However, specific details about any potential deal with an MLC franchise are still scarce. It remains uncertain which MLC team is keen on signing Stokes or when the talented cricketer might make his debut in the US league.

Ben Stokes’ Future Plans

At 35 years old, Ben Stokes still possesses the skills to excel in both batting and bowling, making him a valuable asset for any franchise league. Unlike many of his English counterparts who prioritize national team commitments, Stokes is free to participate in various leagues around the globe.

In a recent conversation, Stokes expressed his desire to transition into coaching after retirement. He mentioned his aspirations to become a coach, with a long-term goal of coaching the England cricket team. While he acknowledged the uncertainty of this ambition, Stokes remains open to the possibility of contributing to the sport in a coaching capacity.

Impact on Major League Cricket

If Ben Stokes decides to join Major League Cricket, it could significantly elevate the profile of the emerging league. As MLC continues to expand and tap into cricketing markets worldwide, Stokes’ involvement could attract a global audience and elevate the league’s stature.
