“He became the victim”: Graeme Swann delivers blunt verdict on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s snub

India vs England T20I Series: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Journey and Future Prospects

India recently faced a disappointing loss against England in the five-match T20I series, with the English team emerging victorious with a 4-0 win. In the final match, India made a significant change by dropping Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old prodigy who had shown promise in the earlier games.

The Controversial Decision

Sooryavanshi, who made his debut in the second T20I match, failed to make a significant impact in the subsequent games, scoring only 14, 13, and 15 runs before being dropped for the final match. This decision raised eyebrows among fans and former cricketers, with many questioning the management’s handling of the young player.

Graeme Swann’s Criticism

Former England spinner Graeme Swann was vocal in his criticism of the decision to drop Sooryavanshi. Swann pointed out that the young batter had shown glimpses of his potential in the games he played and emphasized the need to nurture and support him given his age and emotional development.

“Because he is 15, you have to treat him carefully. Because he is not emotionally developed, he will be disappointed. That could knock him back three or four months. The shoulders will go down,” Swann said on Sony Sports.

A Glimpse into Sooryavanshi’s Future

Despite the setback, Sooryavanshi still has a chance to prove himself in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe, where he will have the opportunity to showcase his talent. With Sanju Samson being rested for the series, Sooryavanshi might open alongside Abhishek Sharma, providing him with a platform to demonstrate his abilities.

Sooryavanshi’s recent performances in the IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals have been exceptional, with him finishing as the leading run-scorer and winning the Orange Cap. His impressive display earned him a spot in the India A side for the Tri-Series in Sri Lanka, where he played a pivotal role in the final match with a brilliant 94 off 29 deliveries.

The Road Ahead

As Sooryavanshi navigates through the challenges of international cricket at a tender age, it is essential for the management and team to provide him with the support and guidance needed to harness his potential fully. With his talent and determination, Sooryavanshi has the opportunity to carve a successful career in Indian cricket and become one of the best in the game.
