Punjab Kings Vice-Captain Shashank Singh Makes a Surprising Move to Pondicherry

The cricketing world was left shocked as Punjab Kings vice-captain Shashank Singh announced his decision to leave Chhattisgarh and join the Pondicherry team for the upcoming 2026-27 domestic season. The hard-hitting batter’s move comes after a fallout with the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh, where he felt he did not receive the support he needed during a difficult recovery period from a serious shoulder injury and fracture in his right finger.

Shashank Singh’s Departure from Chhattisgarh

Shashank Singh expressed his disappointment with the treatment he received from the CSCS, leading to his decision to seek new opportunities with the Pondicherry team. Despite receiving his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the CSCS, Shashank felt neglected after his exclusion from the Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League 2026 and the pre-season camp squad that traveled to Alur, Bengaluru.

In an interview with the Times of India, Shashank revealed, “I suffered serious shoulder and finger injuries last season, but the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh didn’t support me at all in this phase. Post the season, they didn’t put my name on the list of players for the Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League 2026, and my name was also missing in the Chhattisgarh squad which traveled to Bengaluru for a pre-season camp.”

Focus on White-Ball Cricket

After being honored with the prestigious Lala Amarnath Award by the BCCI in 2025, Shashank is eager to showcase his skills in T20 cricket by focusing on bowling his full quota of four overs. He stated, “My body is still fresh. This is why I am focusing more on white-ball cricket and taking a break from red-ball cricket for this season. I am a proper all-rounder. I’m focusing on bowling my full quota of four overs in T20 cricket, for both Pondicherry and for Punjab Kings in the IPL.”
