“She does that all the time”: Sophie Ecclestone on Deepti Sharma’s Mankad threat

India Women’s cricket team is on the verge of claiming a historic victory against England Women at Lord’s in the ongoing Test match. The match has been filled with excitement and drama, with Deepti Sharma’s ‘Mankad’ incident in the final over of Day 3 adding a controversial twist to the game.

Deepti Sharma, known for her unique bowling style, attempted to run out England batter Sophie Ecclestone, who was out of her crease. This incident harked back to a similar occurrence in 2022 when Deepti Sharma famously ran out England’s Charlie Dean at the non-striker’s end. Ecclestone, when asked about Sharma’s Mankad tendencies, nonchalantly brushed it off, stating that it wasn’t the first time she had tried the trick.

The Indian team, led by a stellar performance from Yastika Bhatia, has dominated the match so far. Bhatia made history by scoring the first-ever women’s Test century at Lord’s, contributing 113 runs to India’s total of 341 runs in the second innings. Smriti Mandhana, the team’s opener, also put up an impressive performance with 70 runs.

With only four wickets left, England faces an uphill battle, needing 327 runs to win the match. However, India only needs four wickets to secure a historic victory at the iconic venue. The match is crucial for both teams, as the winner will etch their name in history.
