Musheer Khan achieves rare double after 35 years as Mumbai dominate Haryana in Ranji Trophy

Musheer Khan’s All-Round Masterclass Puts Mumbai in Control Against Haryana

Mumbai’s rising all-rounder Musheer Khan produced a match-defining performance in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27, scoring a century and claiming six wickets to put his side firmly in command against Haryana. The 21-year-old’s display at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai combined patience with the bat and precision with the ball, helping Mumbai build a substantial first-innings lead and enforce the follow-on.

Musheer’s achievement is especially notable in Mumbai cricket history. He became the first Mumbai player in the 21st century to score a First-Class hundred and take at least five wickets in the same match. His performance also places him among a select group of just six Mumbai players to complete the rare double in the Ranji Trophy.

Musheer and Raghuvanshi Build Mumbai’s 430

After Mumbai were asked to make the most of their first innings, Musheer delivered a composed 109 from 185 balls. Rather than relying on a flurry of risky strokes, he built his innings steadily, rotating the strike and capitalising on scoring opportunities as they appeared. The hundred was a significant contribution in a match where establishing a strong total would prove crucial.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi provided equally important support, making 114 from 180 deliveries. The pair’s centuries helped Mumbai reach 430, giving the home side a solid platform and putting pressure on Haryana’s bowlers. Their partnership and individual contributions ensured Mumbai’s total was built through sustained batting rather than a brief burst of scoring.

For Musheer, the hundred continued a promising start to the season. He had already made 65 in his first match and 57 in his second, showing consistency before converting that form into a three-figure score. His latest innings further strengthens his reputation as a young player capable of contributing across multiple phases of a First-Class game.

Six Wickets Turn the Match in Mumbai’s Favour

Musheer carried his influence into Haryana’s innings, using his left-arm spin to take six wickets for 85 runs from 31 overs. His spell was built around persistence and control, with wickets arriving at key moments to disrupt Haryana’s progress and prevent the visitors from mounting a serious challenge to Mumbai’s total.

He struck on Day 2 by dismissing both openers, Ankit Kumar for 35 and Himanshu Rana for 27. On Day 3, Musheer removed Dheeru Singh for 45, ending a 94-run partnership for the third wicket and giving Mumbai an important opening to regain control.

He then continued to work through Haryana’s middle and lower order. Yashvardhan Dalal fell for 10, Parth Vats made six, and Aman Kumar was trapped leg before wicket without scoring. The final dismissal completed Musheer’s six-wicket haul and capped an exceptional all-round contribution.

Haryana’s innings ended at 270, leaving Mumbai with a first-innings advantage of 160 runs. Tanush Kotian supported Musheer with three wickets for 70, while Shams Mulani claimed one for 62. Although Nishant Sindhu resisted with an unbeaten 105, he received limited support as the batting line-up lost wickets in clusters.

The collapse was particularly damaging late in the innings: Haryana slipped from 238 for five to 239 for eight, losing three wickets for just one run in eight balls. That sudden downturn removed any prospect of closing the gap substantially and gave Mumbai the opportunity to enforce the follow-on.

Follow-On Leaves Haryana Under More Pressure

With a 160-run lead secured, Mumbai asked Haryana to bat again. The visitors ended Day 3 on 54 for two, still trailing and facing the challenge of rebuilding after a difficult first innings. Tanush Kotian and Musheer each picked up a wicket before stumps, keeping Mumbai in a strong position as the match moved into its next phase.

The follow-on means Haryana must now produce a far more resilient effort to avoid defeat. Mumbai, meanwhile, will look to maintain the discipline that brought them control: bowl patiently, protect scoring options and make the most of any further chances. While the match is not decided, the scoreboard and momentum are clearly in Mumbai’s favour.

A Rare Mumbai Ranji Trophy Double

Musheer’s century-and-five-wicket performance has placed him alongside some celebrated names in Mumbai cricket. The last Mumbai player to achieve the feat was Ravi Shastri, who accomplished it against Madhya Pradesh during the 1990-91 season. Musheer is the first Mumbai cricketer this century to reach the milestone in a First-Class match.

The Mumbai players recorded as having scored a century and taken a five-wicket haul in the same Ranji Trophy match are:

Madan Raiji against Maharashtra at Bombay in 1947-48; Dattu Phadkar against Madras at Madras in 1948-49; Vinoo Mankad against Madras at Bombay in 1953-54; Polly Umrigar against Maharashtra at Pune in 1957-58; Ravi Shastri against Madhya Pradesh at Indore in 1990-91; and Musheer Khan against Haryana at Mumbai in 2026-27.

What Musheer’s Performance Could Mean for His Season

One standout match does not determine a player’s future, but Musheer’s latest performance offers a compelling prediction of the value he could bring to Mumbai throughout the season. His batting has shown increasing consistency, while his long spell against Haryana demonstrated the patience and stamina required of a frontline spin option in First-Class cricket.

For Mumbai, that combination is particularly valuable. A player who can contribute a substantial innings and then bowl extended spells gives the team flexibility in both selection and match strategy. Musheer’s ability to influence the game in different ways also reduces the burden on specialist batters and bowlers.

Haryana will need a major response in their second innings, while Mumbai will aim to convert their advantage into a decisive result. Whatever the final outcome, Musheer Khan has already delivered one of the defining performances of the contest—and a memorable milestone in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy history.
