Kathmandu Gorkhas Sign Indian Wicketkeeper-Batter KS Bharat as First Overseas Player for NPL 2026

Kathmandu Gorkhas have made a significant addition to their squad for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) by signing Indian wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat as their first foreign player. The announcement was made through the team’s official social media platforms, generating excitement among fans.

Bringing Experience and Reliability

At 32 years old, Bharat, who has predominantly made his mark in domestic cricket, has also represented the Indian National Cricket Team in seven Test matches. His last appearance for India was on February 2, 2024, in a match against England in Visakhapatnam. Kathmandu Gorkhas expressed their enthusiasm for welcoming Bharat to the team, highlighting his experience, reliability, and secure wicketkeeping skills.

Quoting the team’s social media post, “Indian international player KS Bharat, who has played Test cricket for his country, is known for his patience and composure behind the stumps. He will bring experience, reliability, and secure wicketkeeping to the team.”

Bharat also personally addressed the fans through a video message, expressing his excitement to join Kathmandu Gorkhas for the upcoming season. He stated, “Hello, hi everyone, this is Kona Srikar Bharat, wicketkeeper-batsman from India. And I am coming to Kathmandu Gorkhas. See you all at Kathmandu Valley. Three cities, one soul, one dream and one team. See you all there.”

Impressive Domestic Career

Bharat’s recent performances in domestic cricket have been noteworthy. In his last Ranji Trophy match against Bengal earlier this year, he scored a solid 47 runs. Despite some ups and downs in his recent matches, Bharat’s overall domestic cricket stats paint a picture of a consistent performer.

Throughout his First Class cricket career, Bharat has amassed 6102 runs in 113 matches at an average of 36.53. His impressive record includes eleven centuries, with a highest score of 308, and 34 half-centuries. In List A cricket, he has scored 2,692 runs at an average of 36.37, supported by eight centuries and ten fifties.

Experience in T20 Cricket

In addition to his success in longer formats, Bharat has also showcased his skills in T20 cricket. With 1812 runs in 91 matches at an average of 23.23 and a highest score of 93 not out, Bharat has proven his adaptability across formats. His experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore adds to his T20 credentials.

Although Bharat’s T20 strike rate is slightly lower than the modern-day standards, his ability to stabilize the batting lineup and provide composure makes him a valuable asset for Kathmandu Gorkhas in the upcoming NPL season.

Looking Ahead to NPL 2026

The Nepal Premier League 2026 is set to kick off on October 26 and run until November 21. With KS Bharat’s inclusion, Kathmandu Gorkhas aim to strengthen their squad and make a mark in the tournament. Fans eagerly anticipate Bharat’s contributions on the field as the team gears up for an exciting season ahead.

Building Team Chemistry

KS Bharat’s addition to the Kathmandu Gorkhas not only brings professional experience but also the opportunity to enhance team chemistry. With players from different backgrounds coming together, Bharat’s presence can foster a sense of unity and camaraderie among the squad. His leadership qualities and on-field performance can serve as an inspiration for younger players, creating a positive and competitive team environment.

Strategic Role in NPL

As the first overseas player for Kathmandu Gorkhas in the NPL 2026, Bharat’s signing signifies a strategic move by the team management. His ability to read the game, handle pressure situations, and contribute with the bat will be crucial for the team’s success in the tournament. With his experience in different cricketing formats, Bharat can play a versatile role in the team’s lineup, providing stability in crucial moments.

Impact on Nepali Cricket

Bharat’s participation in the Nepal Premier League is not only significant for the Kathmandu Gorkhas but also for the development of cricket in Nepal. As a seasoned cricketer with international exposure, Bharat’s presence can inspire young Nepali players to aim for higher standards and strive for excellence in their own careers. His interactions with local talent and coaching staff can also contribute to the overall growth of cricket in the country.

Off-Field Contributions

Beyond his contributions on the field, KS Bharat’s involvement with the Kathmandu Gorkhas can extend to off-field activities as well. Through community engagements, cricket clinics, and promotional events, Bharat can connect with fans and create a strong fan base for the team. His interactions with local media and appearances at grassroots cricket programs can further enhance the visibility and popularity of the NPL and cricket in Nepal as a whole.

Striving for Success

As the Kathmandu Gorkhas gear up for the NPL 2026, the team’s management, players, and fans are united in their goal of achieving success in the tournament. With the addition of KS Bharat to the squad, the team’s prospects look promising, and the expectations are high. Fans can expect thrilling performances, nail-biting encounters, and memorable moments as the Kathmandu Gorkhas compete against top teams in the NPL.

In conclusion, KS Bharat’s signing as the first overseas player for the Kathmandu Gorkhas in the NPL 2026 marks a significant milestone for the team and Nepali cricket. His experience, skills, and leadership qualities are poised to make a lasting impact on the squad and contribute to the overall growth and success of the team in the upcoming tournament.
