VVS Laxman tipped for big role in Indian cricket as BCCI plans major changes in September: Report

Legendary Cricketer VVS Laxman Set for Major Role in Indian Cricket

Legendary Indian cricketer VVS Laxman, currently serving as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, is rumored to be in line for a significant role in Indian cricket come September 2026. Laxman has been instrumental in the development of Indian cricket and young players at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and his hard work might soon be recognized with a major responsibility in the Indian cricket setup.

Rumors and Speculations

Senior Indian journalist and TV anchor Rajdeep Sardesai discussed on the India Today Podcast that there is a buzz in cricket circles suggesting that VVS Laxman is being considered for a crucial role in Indian cricket. While the exact position has not been revealed, two major possibilities are being speculated. One possibility is that Laxman could potentially take over as the chairman of selectors as Ajit Agarkar’s tenure is set to end in September 2026. Another possibility is that he could be appointed as the white-ball coach of the Indian cricket team.

It is interesting to note that Laxman has been widely tipped for the red-ball coach position due to the team’s struggles in Test cricket. However, the possibility of him becoming the white-ball coach is also being considered. Changes are expected in the Indian cricket setup around September, leading to new responsibilities for individuals, with Laxman’s name reportedly being among the top contenders for a key role.

Potential Role for Laxman

Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as the Indian team’s coach has come under scrutiny following a string of poor performances by the team. Under Gambhir’s leadership, India faced several defeats in both ODI and Test formats, marking a low point in the team’s recent history. The BCCI is reportedly considering VVS Laxman for a coaching role, either as the Test coach or the white-ball coach, to bring a fresh perspective and turnaround the team’s fortunes.

With India facing challenges in both red-ball and white-ball cricket, Laxman’s experience and cricketing acumen could prove to be invaluable in steering the team back to success. As the head of the NCA, Laxman has been working tirelessly to groom young talent and improve the overall standard of Indian cricket. His potential elevation to a prominent role in the Indian cricket setup signifies a new chapter in the sport, with fans eagerly anticipating his impact on the team’s performance.

As September approaches, all eyes will be on VVS Laxman and the potential new role he might assume in Indian cricket. Whether he takes on the responsibilities of a chief selector or a coach, his appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective and a renewed sense of optimism to the Indian cricket team.
