Arshdeep Singh Reaches 100 T20I Appearances as India’s Fast-Bowling Milestone Man
India left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has joined an exclusive group of Indian men’s cricketers by making his 100th T20 International appearance. He reached the landmark against New Zealand at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday, October 22, becoming the seventh Indian man to play at least 100 matches in the format.
Arshdeep is also only the second specialist fast bowler from India to reach the century of T20I caps, following Jasprit Bumrah. The milestone reflects how quickly the 27-year-old has established himself as a regular across conditions and tournaments since making his international debut in 2022.
Indian Men With 100 or More T20I Appearances
India’s list of men with 100-plus T20I appearances features players from several generations. Rohit Sharma tops the chart, having played 159 matches between 2007 and 2024. Hardik Pandya is next with 138 appearances, while Virat Kohli represented India in 125 T20Is before retiring from the format in 2024.
Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel have each played 113 matches. Bumrah reached 100 T20Is during his international career, and Arshdeep has now joined him among India’s specialist quicks to achieve the mark. The growing list is a reflection of India’s long-term investment in T20 cricket and the consistency required to remain part of a demanding international schedule.
India’s women’s team has also produced a strong group of long-serving T20I players. Harmanpreet Kaur leads the women’s list with 202 appearances, followed by Smriti Mandhana on 171 and Deepti Sharma on 149. Jemimah Rodrigues, with 131 matches, and Shafali Verma, with 111, have also passed the 100-game mark.
A Difficult 100th Match in Christchurch
Arshdeep’s landmark appearance did not bring an easy day with the ball. He finished with figures of 1/45 from four overs, conceding runs at an economy rate of 11.25 as New Zealand’s batters attacked India’s bowling lineup.
His wicket came through a change of pace. Daryl Mitchell edged a slower delivery, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar completed the catch at fine leg. Although the breakthrough added to Arshdeep’s career tally, New Zealand’s aggressive approach limited India’s opportunities to build sustained pressure.
India did make early inroads. Mayank Yadav dismissed Tim Seifert for 24, with wicketkeeper Sanju Samson taking the catch, while Axar Patel removed Finn Allen after the opener had scored 45. Tilak Varma held on to the catch. The momentum shifted as Glenn Phillips and Bevon Jacobs put together an attacking middle-overs partnership, forcing India’s bowlers to defend against a rising run rate.
Bhuvneshwar, returning to international cricket for the first time since 2022, also faced a demanding spell. The match served as a reminder that even experienced bowlers can be tested when batters take calculated risks and maintain pressure through the middle overs.
From a Maiden Over to 100 T20Is
Arshdeep made his T20I debut against England in Southampton on July 7, 2022. He began his international career with a maiden over, an assured introduction that hinted at the control he would later bring to India’s pace attack.
Before his 100th appearance, Arshdeep had taken 145 wickets in 99 T20Is. His record included an average of 20.30, an economy rate of 8.63 and a strike rate of 14.12. Those figures highlight his value as a wicket-taking bowler, particularly in a format where the balance between attacking the stumps and limiting scoring opportunities can change quickly.
His left-arm angle gives India a different option from right-arm fast bowlers, while his ability to deliver yorkers and slower balls has made him useful in the closing overs. Those skills are especially important in T20 cricket, where a single over can reshape a game’s momentum.
Key Records and Tournament Contributions
Arshdeep became the fastest Indian fast bowler to take 100 T20I wickets, reaching the mark in 64 matches in September 2025. He later recorded his best T20I figures, taking 5/51 against New Zealand in January 2026.
His contribution has extended beyond bilateral series. At the 2024 T20 World Cup, Arshdeep finished as one of the tournament’s joint-leading wicket-takers with 17 scalps, helping India secure the title. He also played a part in India’s successful title defence in 2026 and was named the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year for 2024.
These achievements help explain why Arshdeep has become a central figure in India’s T20 plans. His record combines regular wicket-taking with experience in high-pressure matches, while his age and rapid rise suggest he could remain an important part of the side for years to come.
What the Milestone Means for India
Reaching 100 T20Is is more than a statistical landmark. For a fast bowler, it represents sustained fitness, selection consistency and the ability to adapt to different roles—from taking the new ball to bowling at the death. Arshdeep’s milestone also underlines the depth India has developed in a format where workloads, conditions and opposition strategies vary sharply.
For supporters looking ahead, the prediction is that Arshdeep will continue to be a key part of India’s plans in major T20 tournaments, provided he maintains his fitness and form. His Christchurch performance was challenging, but one difficult outing does little to diminish a record built on years of reliable contributions. With 100 appearances now behind him, the next chapter will be measured not only by wickets, but by how often he can deliver when India need a breakthrough most.
